Yemen Security Brief

  • Al Houthi leader Abdul Malik al Houthi accused Yemeni President Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi of being a puppet for U.S. and Saudi interests in Yemen in a televised speech on February 26. He also accused elements in Shabwah and Ma’rib of being allied with al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).[1]
  • Ansar al Sharia militants attacked a military patrol in al Hawta city, Lahij on February 26. The militants killed four soldiers, and claimed credit for the attack on Twitter.[2]
  • Suspected Ansar al Sharia militants assassinated a security officer in Aden city, Aden on February 26. The militants were riding a motorcycle, which is consistent with past Ansar al Sharia assassinations in the region.[3]

Horn of Africa Security Brief

  • Unidentified gunmen attacked the Bari region governor’s house in Boosaaso, Bari region on February 26. No group has claimed credit for the attack. Al Shabaab has carried out attacks against government officials in Boosaaso in the past.[4]
