Iran News Round Up

The Iran News Round Up ran from February 2009-September 2018. Visit the Iran File for the latest analysis.

Key takeaway: Iranian officials strongly objected to the House of Representatives’ approval of new sanctions on the IRGC and its ballistic missile program.

Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to the Supreme Leader Ali Akbar Velayati stated that the recent sanctions bill is “in direct contravention of the nuclear deal.” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghassemi stated that the U.S. has “cast the [nuclear deal] into jeopardy.” Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the sanctions vote would “have an effect” on the nuclear deal and referred to the sanctions as “a completely clear hostile act” against Iran. Iranian officials regularly claim that the U.S. has violated the nuclear deal through such efforts as the 2016 renewal of the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA).

This Iran News Round Up predominantly covers events from July 24-26.
